The Eli and Edythe Broad Foundation had three goals in providing $60 million to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art to fund a new contemporary art museum and art acquisitions: to increase the gallery space for contemporary art at LACMA, to bring great architecture to LACMA’s expansive campus, and to advance L.A.’s stature as a global capital of contemporary art. Designed by renowned architect Renzo Piano, the three-story Broad Contemporary Art Museum—or BCAM—opened in 2008 and features 72,000 square feet of galleries and rotating artwork exhibitions.
