Our Vision

Every student in America deserves a chance for a great life. But too many students and families—especially those who live in large cities, who are Black or Latino, or who struggle with poverty—need better public schools and school systems. In our home city of Los Angeles, the second largest school district in the country, the need is particularly significant.

Our grantees and the leaders we support are relentless in their pursuit of providing an excellent education for every child. With teachers, school leaders, parents and community members, we are committed to improving our public schools and making sure every family has access to a great school. Our students deserve no less.

What We Believe

We Believe

  • We believe public schools must remain public.
  • We believe all students – regardless of family background or where they live – deserve the opportunity to lead successful and fulfilling lives.
  • We believe all families deserve access to a great public school.
  • We believe all students have the right to learn from a great teacher.
  • We believe teachers deserve to be treated as professionals and supported in all their important work.
  • We believe visionary leaders are essential to helping schools improve.
  • We believe in setting high expectations for students and schools so that excellence is the standard.
  • We believe communities are vital partners in ensuring the health and success of public schools.
  • We believe all American schools can and should be world-class.
