Statement from Gerun Riley, President of The Broad Foundation, on President-elect Biden’s Appointment of Eric Lander as Presidential Science Advisor and Nominee for Director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy
“On behalf of Eli, Edye and my colleagues at The Broad Foundation, we extend our congratulations to Eric Lander on his appointment to join President-elect Biden’s cabinet as Presidential Science Advisor. We are grateful and hopeful for Eric’s service, knowing he will help elevate the role of science and technology in wrestling with some of the biggest issues of our time.
For over two decades we have had the honor of calling Eric a friend and partner, and we have marveled at his visionary thinking, his intellect, and his commitment to advancing scientific and medical research for the public good.
The Broad Foundation was proud to help Eric launch the Broad Institute 16 years ago, and since then it has become a model for pioneering and collaborative biomedical research, bringing together multi-disciplinary faculty and students from leading academic institutions and research hospitals to generate new and exciting scientific discoveries.
We are heartened that he is bringing his enthusiasm, experience, public service spirit and scientific vision to the Biden administration, and we wish him much success in his new role.”
